Distance Learning Week #7

Welcome to week 3 of the FINAL 6-Weeks of 2nd Grade! As promised, I will provide you with weekly data on how our class is doing on our SeeSaw activities. I am hopeful that we will see an increase in participation.
This bar graph shows the number of activities I have approved each week of the current grading period. As you can see, we had a decrease of 35 activities. I know we can bounce back this week!
This calendar breaks down our daily data. As a whole, our class started out strong in the beginning of the week. You are not expected to work on the weekends (if you choose to, that is OK 🌝). I do want to encourage each of you to participate in your assignments DAILY during the school week M-F. Even if you aren't able to finish 100% of the activities assigned each day, there are benefits to daily involvement. A little studying each day helps keep your brain ACTIVELY engaged!
Students who are making an effort to continue their learning at home, will be marked "present." Mainly, I will be monitoring your progress through SeeSaw. However, if your parents have reached out and provided me with others ways you have been learning and working at home,  I will of course take that into consideration. I want you to be successful and ready for 3rd grade. Attendance matters!
I want to give a big round of applause to all of you for your hard work! Your effort to keep up with your learning is definitely noticed. Mrs. Gilmore & Ms. Harrell have given us positive feedback.  Your commitment to learn each day is appreciated, boys & girls! I am so proud to be your teacher!
"What's Up Wednesday" is 100% optional. Thank you to our brave friends who have participated. I've enjoyed seeing your sweet faces and hearing you share "What's Up" each week. This is a fun way to get in some speaking & listening skills:)
We have had 4/20 students take their April ISIP assessment on istation. Please make sure you login to istation and take your test  BEFORE Friday! I am so eager to see the growth you all have made, since the beginning of March. I can't wait to celebrate your progress!
Starrett is ready to serve you! Drive thru meals are available M-F 11-1.
Have a great week, Stallions!❤

Distance Learning Week #6

I hope each of you had a wonderful, relaxing, and enjoyable weekend. We are beginning week 2 of our last 6weeks grading period. We had a whopping 363 assignments submitted last week. I will be sharing that data with you each Monday, so you can see how many activities were done each day by our class as a whole. The goal is to increase our involvement each week. I see how hard you all are working and I am SO proud!!!!
As I mentioned last week, you can login to istation and take your April ISIP assessment anytime throughout this month.

Thank you to Andrea and Mason for taking your test. I am pleased with the results! Can't wait to see the growth for the rest of our friends:)
The purpose of "What's Up Wednesday" is to connect with your friends. I hope that seeing them and sharing things together will bring a smile to your faces each week. Thank you to Caleb & Henry for sharing something special for Show & Tell. That was such a cool shark lamp, Caleb! What a nice birthday gift! Henry, your Show & Tell Rootbeer made me want to make a float. Rootbeer floats are delicious! It isn't too late for our classmates to go and show us something special! This is always OPTIONAL, just something fun if you wish to participate!

Here is the menu this week for meals! The Starrett feeding times are M-F from 11-1. I want to give a big shout-out to our super hero lunch staff and administrators for serving our Stallions each week with a smile. Filling your bellies.....fills their hearts!!!

I absolutely LOVED Zooming with all of you last week. It was so fun interacting and responding together with "Sunny Spoon" & "Froggy Fork." I will send out details later in the week for this week's Zoom meeting. Remember our Friday Fun Classroom on Zoom will always begin @5:30. Login a few minutes early, so we can start on time. We will try to limit our family meeting to about 30 minutes, to respect your time and not interfere with dinner!
Please know that I understand this new way of learning has been a challenge for all of us, but our class is rocking it! When I send back your activities to review with my feedback, I am providing you with a learning opportunity. Each of you are putting in the work and it is making my heart extra happy! No matter where you are....I will ALWAYS be here to teach you and support you through it!

Distance Learning Week #5

Hi, 2nd graders! Today begins our final grading period of the school year. It is so important that you are continuing your learning at home. We will also begin taking "attendance" this week. This will be based on your level of involvement. This is your opportunity to show me what you know!
I need to see an honest effort being made in some capacity. For most, that will look like completing your self-paced SeeSaw activities. As always, new daily lessons will be available M-F@7:30. The time frame in which you choose do engage in your assignments will remain flexible. Activities will continue to carry over from day-to-day. It is best to try and stay caught up as much as possible. I understand each family has different schedules & situations. That is where the GRACE I keep mentioning comes in. Please know that I am available to help you at ANYTIME (seriously, I am not tied to a 8-4 schedule...I am a night owl and welcome you reaching out to me when needed). I want your child to be successful in graduating second grade and ready to head into third grade STRONG!
Hope everyone is starting to adjust to SeeSaw. You may notice that the assignment styles are a bit different this week. In previous weeks, the district has been assigning the lessons. I am so excited to be able to go through lessons and pick out the ones I think are the best fit for our class. As I assess your work, there may be times where I send back an activity for you to review again. I will be providing you with more feedback throughout the week. Each day you will have a total of 6 lessons (2 math, 1 reading, 1 word work, 1 writing, and 1 Science/Social Studies) that will have a balanced literacy approach, as well as a focus in math/science/Social Studies. SeeSaw will be my main platform to assess your learning progress.
Keep up the hard work!
Students will login to istation and take their April ISIP assessment (this is different than their istation backpack assignments). This will need to be accessed through Rapid Identity. Please have your child do this independently, so that our growth data will be accurate. It is best to provide a quiet atmosphere for your child to assess in and have them engage at a time when they are well-rested and focused. This can be taken at anytime throughout this month. As a reminder, istation is a comprehensive tool used to measure a range of reading abilities:
 • Phonological and Phonemic Awareness (rhyme; initial, middle and final sounds; segmenting and blending sounds)
Phonics (letter knowledge, alphabetic decoding, spelling)
Vocabulary (academic words in the language)
Comprehension (listening/language comprehension, reading comprehension)
Fluency (accuracy and rate, monitoring for comprehension)
Don't forget that AISD is providing meals during this time of closure. Drive through food pickup lanes are available M-F from 11-1 @Starrett. All children 18 years of age & younger (who are present in the vehicle) are being served breakfast & lunch. OPTIONAL Friendly Reminder: new content packets are also available for pickup on Mondays. This is NOT a requirement.
Our "What's Up Wednesday" flipgrid link will always be posted in my Wednesday SeeSaw announcements. I have enjoyed meeting your pets and being inspired by your positive messages. This week will be "Show & Tell". I can't wait for each of you to share something special with us!
I hope each of you can feel how proud I am of you! I miss you all dearly and look forward to our "Fun Friday" on Zoom! This is a way for us to celebrate our week of academic successes and connect with classmates. Hope to see you ALL Friday @5:30!
Think of it as our 💓❤"Family Meeting."❤💓

Distance Learning Week #4

Happy, Monday! We are entering our second week for the district assigned SeeSaw lessons. It is my hope that you will become more comfortable with SeeSaw, the more you use it. Like anything we do, practice makes progress. As a reminder, new lessons will be available for you to access @7:30 each school morning. Work at your own pace and do the best you can. Please remember to take frequent breaks and rest your eyes. I suggest splitting up your lessons in chunks and limiting your screen time to 45 minutes or less between sessions. Take some time to exercise, draw, read, play, write, do a puzzle, be creative, and just give yourself that needed "screen break."  I also can't stress this enough...
Do what you can, when you can. I don't want you to overwhelm yourself to the point of frustration. Unfinished lessons will carry over and be available to you at all times on SeeSaw. I'm looking for EFFORT!
On another note, don't miss out on a delicious breakfast & lunch. Starrett is ready to serve you from 11-1 Monday-Friday!      😊#feedyourbrain😊
I will continue to provide our weekly objectives, just to keep some normalcy. However, more importantly I want you to be exposed to this content. I know that SeeSaw is a HUGE load & priority. I hope that you can take a moment this week to review what we had planned to be learning in class.
